In my experience, most Americans study Italian for one reason: to be able to speak the language in Italy or with Italians here in the States. They want to feel comfortable understanding the language as it's spoken by native speakers, and to feel confident enough to respond naturally and intelligently.
Simple enough, but as anyone who's traveled abroad knows, the speed and rythm of a language when spoken by natives can confuse someone who's tried to learn from tapes or books, and the awful panic that results can cause you to loose confidence and freeze up in the simplest of situations. No fun.
So my classes have a clear focus: listening and responding. You'll do a lot of both every week, and since I've only been in the States two years, I guarantee you'll be hearing the language you'll hear in Italy when I talk to you! Not only that, but since Italian is as full of strong regional dialects as English here in America, it's important to learn the purest, clearest pronounciation possible. (Imagine a group of Italians learning English from an American with a thick Southern drawl!) During my work as an actress in Italy (I spent several years doing radio and voice-over work as well as appearing in film and television) I was fortunate enough to be trained in voice and pronounciation by the best professionals in Rome, and I'm able to pass these techniques on to my students.

Sincerely,

Isabella Perricone
